Rob, you don't give a lot of detail as in is this a bridge over a river or creek or a crossing over a drain? If it's an access bridge over water I think you will find it is going to cost quite a bit of money and will probably need council approval/resource consent. Don't quote me on that but the days of just chucking a bridge over a bit of water have gone.
A chap further up the road had a bridge put in and it cost him in the region of $20K. We have an access bridge over our river and I hope it lasts until we move because I would hate to think what it would cost to replace.
Cheers,
Ronnie

As Ronney said, you don't give enough detail. Size will have a large influence on cost as will the load it is expected to carry.
There was a neighbour that had to build one over a river for subdividing purposes and it had to be rated for 20t. Spans about 10m. 6 years ago it cost him over $30k. Cast on site abutments with a precast deck, no siderails just a lip.

i am looking at cost for putting a bridge across my creek, it would need to take commercial vehicles ,know i was a bit vague on details and it was a long shot, i just thought there was a basic formula as in $ per m2. i guess i will have to do a bit of measuring or go and see council,
i have emailed a company to see if they could give me some info.
but thank you all for your help

My parent's neighbour had a new bridge put in about 5 years ago after a truck driver (delivering the new plants for his glasshouse) went over the edge and half-demolished the old one.
He ended up employing an engineer to design it (he's in Ramarama, and the engineer was local but my Dad can't remember who). A team of workers then rammed enormous wooden piles into the sides of the creek, then they lay pre-cast concrete slabs on it, then they used a quicky dry cement to hold it all together. I'm sure it was bit more complicated than that, but that's what my Dad observed them doing.
The neighbour then had a big fight with council about handrails - they're very specific about handrails because apparently children are not allowed to climb up on them as they may jump in the creek. The fact that the children could climb under or over the fence beside the bridge and jump in from the edge was lost on them.
Anyway, it carries very big trucks (I'd say 15-20 tons easy) every day and my Dad thought it was about $20,000 (but says don't quote him on that
because it could be more).. however... I've quoted him!

Sure thing Rob, will get my Dad to ask the neighbour and get back to you.. .although, seeing as I seem to be suffering quite a lot of brain fade recently, remind me if I don't get back to you!

Rob, the Queen Victoria & St Stephens Anglican Trust had to put in a new bridge about five years ago when a fire engine went through their old one. It was quite a big issue under the Resource Management Act getting all the neighbours to sign off on it to say they didn't mind it being rebuilt etc. Back in 1991 I remember the ARC saying it would cost $30,000 to span the same stream further down (it spread hugely when in flood mode) so I think you are up for BIG money. I would have also thought it was the Auckland Regional Council you would have to deal with given it is a waterway. Not much help I'm sorry.
