MM, I was just wondering whether Dean and his family have settled in ok (or even if they have left the UK),. I cannot remember what his name was on here, but don't recall seeing any recent posts saying they had arrived.

sorry it's been a while since we spoke, but it's been mad here as we have sold the house, the dog is booked on a flight and the removals were due on 3-4 Jan, dean was on his last week at work! then Nz immigration then tell us that the course dean is doing does not qualify for residencey under the new changes in the immigration which happened on 26th Nov. so it has all fallen apart, the medicals, dog the lot. we received a letter pretty much confirming this on wed last week. dean has now got into NZ police and is coming out for a month in Mar 08 to complete the police tests.so we are hoping that we can still get out that way. there is a course starting in Oct 08.

I think if an application for residency is already being processed to the point that this one was, NZ immigration should have at least honoured it. It's by no means a cheap exercise to get here, and I expect that Dean & family could well have done without wasting that kind of money that far down the line:(
From the time we started making plans to come to NZ and up to when we submitted our residency application, the points system changed twice and there were at least 2 other changes if I remember correctly.
I suppose they have a quota they will accept for certain criteria, then once filled they change it.
It's not meant to be easy I understand that, but if they are looking for a certain trade or skill etc then if that persons expression of interest form is suitable then the rest of the process should be made much easier.
