With the last teenager gone, we have taken the plunge and purchased a 4H bareland block in Waimakariri. We have a 30,000l water tank with another one on the way, a container, a hired Portacom and a kitset garden shed. The power and water are hopefully being connected soon  Fully deer fenced block, Established hedges to West and East and a 3 bay barn going up shortly. ( Had to force husband to get some one in to put up the barn as we both work and I am trying to minimise his stress levels :)
Not in a rush to make any major decisions re stock etc, as we are still trying to choose the 100sqm home to build! The plan is to live on the land, let our two Pointers run wild and enjoy the peace and quiet of rural life.
All comments, suggestions and ideas greatly appreciated. I have been checking out the Forums for the last year and have learnt a lot and had many a good chuckle at the witty comments.

Hi
Welcome to this super informative forum.
I too will be heading down to Canterbury in the future to retire so I will be interested in your journey.
Looking at the Coopers Creek area myself or maybe out Springfield way with a view of the southern alps.
It would be help full for myself and maybe others if you could keep a rough costing of the various
project you have to do.
Such as a rough cost to get water connected...cost of 3 bay barn.
Let us know how you get along.
Thanks
Richard
