I'm so pleased to have found LSB, although we only just qualify for the status with a mere 0.5ha. But with tank water and a septic tank we do still have to deal with a number of those 'rural' issues.
With such a small piece of land we don't have any stock (although there's space for a couple of sheep and some chickens if we wanted them), but we've gone the green fingers way and have put in a large vege garden and an extensive orchard with a wide variety of fruits and berries that finally started to produce a crop that we could seriously use last summer for eating and preserving.
And we've also spent a lot of time developing a beautiful garden that is just waiting for spring to burst into colour from its current shades of green.
Fortunately living in the Waikato we haven't had to suffer through the effects of the snow, and while we've had a lot of rain there's been no flooding, and with the rain it's meant we've had a relatively mild winter without the normally harsh frosts either. Here's hoping the weather gods stay on our side and we don't suffer a drought come summer!
I'm looking forward to meeting likeminded people and sharing growing tips and recipes.
