Hi

I'm new to the forum. We left the big smoke 8 months ago and bought 5 acres in Hawkes Bay. Currently have a number of fruit and nut trees and a handful of Wiltshire sheep.

This looks like a great place to hang out and learn stuff so here we are!

Welcome. I am down in Kapiti with 1/5 acres, however we are not doing much with the land at the moment due to being incapacitated

Thanks. What are you doing to keep the grass down?

Hi Ferg and welcome to the forum. Good to see you have left the big smoke for fresh country air!
I moved to the Far North nearly 2 years ago and love it. We have 41.5 acres and 26 acres of that is pasture.

You asked... What are you doing to keep the grass down?

We asked the farming couple we purchased from to continue grazing our pasture as part of their rotation until we are ready to get our own stock. The arrangement has had free benefits for both of us... they still have the same area of grazing, the cattle get fed and our grass is kept under control.
The bonus is they have become great friends as well.

Thanks for the welcome. The query was directed at Kai who mentioned they had a small block but were incapacitated but it's also good to hear your story. When we first bought we didn't know anything about stock and allowed the previous owners to continue grazing their sheep, as well as another neighbour who was short on feed. We too have since become friends with the previous owners, despite their stock having moved on and us acquiring a number of lawnmowers with personality.
