Starting a mission was created by Koen and Suze
Hi everyone.
We are Koen and Suze.
We just bought ourselves a 6,5 hectare slice of beautiful Nelson North.
Becides the native bush, brambles and gorse is there not much else on our land yet.
We've got a little steam which at the moment runs nicely, but not sure what will happen to it in the middle of summer.
There's a badly maintained road to a flat building site where we will be building a platform to put our lotus bell tent on.
After that we will be building a small shed for our shower, toilet and kitchen and once that's done we'd like to put a rain and sun cover over the whole site.
We're really going back to the basics and hopefully our budget will stretch far enough to gravel the road and get power and phone to the site.
After that. .. we're not sure.
It's going to be a mission, but i think we're ready for it.
Looking forward to getting ideas and suggestions from all of you here on this website.
Thank you for reading or message.
Cheers

Well, that certainly sounds like an adventure! Just make sure you've got somewhere warm and dry before next winter.
Good luck in your endeavours

I would suggest you look at a 20 ft container for the utility shed. Saw someone advertising "single use" containers for $1500 recently

Yeah we were thinking about that too. Makes an instand lock up and will serve great as workshop later down the track.

Somewhere warm and dry for you, some fenced areas safe and secure for your critters...then spend some time just getting used to the place and mulling over how best to use it, fence it, and plant it

5 acres, Ferguson 35X and implements, Hanmay pto shredder, BMW Z3, Countax ride on mower, chooks, Dorper and Wiltshire sheep. Bosky wood burning central heating stove and radiators. Retro caravan. Growing our own food and preserving it. Small vineyard, crap wine.

it's an exciting start to your dreams! My advice is to get friendly with Tasman District Council planning department and check what options are allowed for buildings. So many people waste time on ideas that won't get council approval. See if you can live on site in a caravan for a while to get used to the local conditions. Check out power, water and phone options. See what the bank will lend on, do all these things before you start dreaming.
Good luck, lots of people have done what you hope to do before, and there is plenty of advice on this site.
