Hi first time here.
Please help I want to tan kangaroo hides but I can not find a product that removes the hair to just get the leather.
Thanks.

apparently if you don'y salt the hide the hair will fall off during the tanning process. That's what I was told and what happened when I tried tanning a goat skin. I hadn't salted it and the hair came out...

True what natacha said. The first stage of the rotting process is for the hair to "slough" off. I believe sodium hydroxide is used commercially. Don't get it on clothes or skin though!

Soaking the hide in an alkaline solution will cause the hair to shed, soaking it in an acid solution will cause the hair to set and remain during the rest of the tanning process.

Lime water was the old way, but as mentioned above, Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda) is the new way.
