Hi all.
We're moving out of town in October to our first block of land. It's a gorgeous wee quarter acre so probably tiny compared to what most of you have but we're so excited!! We're currently planning our new garden out with the help of the yates garden guide, Google and advice from friends and family. We've got a blank slate as its been newly subdivided so no existing trees or anything.
We're planning on growing mostly edible plants, with a few different kinds of flowers thrown in the mix to attract beneficial bugs. I'll be asking a lot of questions in the near future!! We're also setting up a few chickens. Yay!!
Are there any others in west canterbury out there? Would be keen to hear what's growing well in your gardens :)

Nothing like a piece of land, not matter what the size, if you make the best use of it. Enjoy.

25 acres, 1400 Blue Gums, Wiltshire sheep, 5 steers, 2 cows, ducks, chickens, bees, dog, cats, retired, 1 husband and 3 grandkids.

Where in Canterbury? There are so SO many micro-climates out there, what will grow well here won't grow well further north without lots more irrigation, what grows further north won't do as well here unless frost-cloth is used, and sometimes will just not thrive because it's too cold. Best to look in your very immediate area at what people are growing. :)
