Hi Guys,

New to posting on LSB. I've just had my first year on our small 2 acre block, we had 3 Romney Ewes and I lost two to pregnancy toximia. So down to one ewe and one lamb.

I'd like to move to sheep that shed either Wiltshire or Dorper, looking for 3 ewes with lambs (we had too much grass last year) ideally. Anyone have any older ewes with lambs they want to get rid of? Or any other suggestions?

I can only find sheep in south auckland on trademe, anyone know a good stock transporter that will do a smaller load?

Neil.

I will have some wiltshire for sale, they are part bred with 1/4 arapawa and dont fully shed but nearly. I will be keeping their ewe lambs but not necessarily the ram lambs. Am near Muriwai and have a sheep cage if people buy sheep off me they can use if they have a trailer. They havent all lambed yet
I wouldnt go for dorper in Dairy Flat which is renowned for being quite wet. Dorper do better on dry land

Age is one of the main causes of Sleepy Sickness, aka Pregnancy Toxaemia, in sheep. More likely with ewes with poor or missing teeth, or with sore feet. More likely if the pasture is of low energy plants, and not optimum fertility.
Old Dorpers are likely to be a big problem for you, especially if you breed them again.
Remember that only humans stop ovulating as they age, so don't allow female animals that are too old, to get pregnant.

I will be selling the wiltis with ram lambs as I just want some ewe lambs. They are hoggets so will only have one lamb each in their first year. Not due to lamb for another few weeks

Ronney, the purpose of this forum, as I understand it, is for us to be able to politely ask questions and politely give ideas and suggestions. You have been rude enough to make a comment that is of no use to anyone, and is offensive. Please explain which idea you do not agree with so that we can discuss whatever it is that you are objecting too. That way we can learn, rather than just slandering each other. And if any parts of my post are incorrect, I will happily change it.
