Some donkey's and me was created by Pandora
Hi from Northland,
Went to Ireland ...fell in love with donkeys and now have some of my own as well as a foal due any day.
Notice buttercup is rampant and wondering how to get rid of it this time of year......
Any suggestions welcome.

We used to breed donkeys, but have now rescued about half of the foals we reared, and another one on Monday :-((. We have 17 now, of which 2 are jacks/stallions, and only breed if we get a deposit at mating and a commitment to buy at least two. Old people like donkeys for when the grandchildren visit, donkeys live for donkeys years, old people don't and children grow up .... :-((.
Thus, don't breed unless you have a committed sale and the foal will have company when it is weaned at 6 months.
We geld the jack foals at about 12 weeks so that they remain less aggressive, and won't mate mum.
If you have a jack, your jenny will be fertile about 5 days after foaling, so remove him very soon after foaling.
The best spray to use on buttercup is MCPA, or one of the other broadleaf weed killers. Also, drain the land, lime it and fertilise it. Damp soil and donkeys are a terrible combination.

Thanks for that. Lucky here with hills and great to see them playing chasing games.
Worked at donkey rescue centre in Ireland and decided not to have any jacks after seeing them jumping fences.
Am in Nelson late January and would really enjoy getting together. Regards karen
