New from Nelson area

Hi, we are moving onto a small block soon. Looking forward to some space to grow more food for the family.

Looking forward to having a good read and learning more.

Keen on a plant/seed swap but can't find much in classifieds. Looking at fruit, veges, herbs and perrenials.

Hi Hntfshgather - welcome. Whereabouts are you? what's your climat / soil like?

what type of planting do you have in mind? traditional orchard and vege garden, permaculture type food forest, or somewhere in between?

do you want to grow protein (meat, poultry) as well?

Hi, I am in Nelson Bays, coastal.

The vege garden is already set up with raised beds so it's just putting more edible stuff throughout the existing borders and orchards, we will have chickens for eggs for a start, considering ducks for meat.

Hi Steve, from inland Brightwater. Where are you, because that will affect what you can grow? Our vege garden took about 10 years and lots of donkey poo until it became reasonably productive. One of our main problems is that we are on rain and spring water, so get dry when the weather gets hot, which veges don't like. They don't do well on "grey" water.

Hi Hntfshgather, we are growing a variety of crops you are welcome to take cuttings or grafts of, we are in Hope on the main road, easy to find.
