hi - I'm a lifestyle wanna be currently living in Geraldine on 1/4 acre and about to start my yearning for a farming life with 3 hens in the chookery at the bottom of the garden . I'm really enjoying reading the forums and gleaning ideas for the future. I have a vege garden manager husband and a future sheep herding beardie/border X called Bracken .

Good exercise for the heart is to bend down and help someone up. Anon.

Hi Inthechookery - welcome to the site. You're in the right place for chook aficionados - there are lots of us that enjoy them. And you'd be amazed at how much you can pack into a 1/4 acre.
Look forward to hearing more from you as your farming life develops.
Cheers, Mich.

thanks for that - yes this is a great site and for the first time in my life I am doing the preparation before getting the livestock - would love to find a sheep dog trials person nearby to assess my dog and get me started if he's got promise - hard to do when you have no sheep .

Hi inthechookery, and welcome. Dreams can come true, I know! I waited over 35 years, but we got there. Good on you for preparing and I wish you all the best.

Hi and welcome,
I have heard of a sheep dog guru down your way, will see if I can track down the details for you. Another thought would be to contact a local A&P member as there are often sheep dog trials as part of the shows and I would think any experienced dog handler would be happy to help you.
We waited 19 years in the city before we got back to the country and it has definitely been worth the wait. Whilst we were in Christchurch we had a vege garden, chooks and an annual pet lamb and even a goat one year[:0].
I think our neighbours were very relieved when the for sale sign went up[

Welcome to the forums!
Try here for someone to assess your dog:
nz.skillpages.com/francine.murray
She's in Darfield, but very well-connected in the field, so will be able to point you in the right direction. I've seen her dogs in action - very cool to watch them work!
