Hello All - We have recently sold our 5+ bed in Red Beach and are living in our tiny 1 bed place (that was originally purchased as our rental investment) in Orewa. I have 2 boys that have moved to Ohakune for the season to instruct skiing/snowboarding and a daughter aged 10. What a mission so far, sold house very quickly (yay) but had to put more or less whole house in storage while we squash ourselves into our little unit for the time being. We have purchased 5 acres in Oneriri Road in Takahoa Bay farm estate with a gorgeous view and lake to get away from the urbanisation/noise/neighbours. We plan to build a shed first and live in that, then build the house. Both the barn and the house will be of the steel variety as hubby works for Totalspan. We are going for the rustic/industrial/country look lol. Hoping to install solar power and whatever else we can afford to safe energy possibly being partially off-grid Lots of research to do. Had 4 urban chooks which are now residing at a friend's lifestyle block. Hoping to get more when we go rural as well as planning orchard and veggies. Lots to learn and look at on this great site. Will be asking lots of questions soon - apologies in advance ;)

Hi MrsMcGoo, how exciting! Your plans sound great :) Can kind of sympathise with the moving experience. All our kids had left home so didn't have to worry about relocating them but we had been in our place in Auckland for 16 years (read, lots of stuff accumulated!) and had the use of a little cottage in Ruawai for 8 years before we sold up in Auckland and bought something in Matakohe. Selling up house and business in Auckland and moving two houses into one was pretty stressful! But it's all done now and life just gets better and better :-)

You will have a beautiful spot there, I have a friend that lives down oneriri road and it's lovely out there. You'll also have the best cheese shop at doorstep! Do you have a date for moving into your shed yet?

I can understand the nerves :o Its very scary leaving behind what you know and are comfortable with to start a new adventure. We worked towards our move for eight years and then when it came time to actually doing it, we were terrified! And it's taken a bit of getting used to...but we have no regrets and things are just getting better and better as we settle and adjust. You'll have to keep us posted on progress :o
