Hi everybody. I've been reading the LSB site for a while and have found it to be most interesting and informative.
My wife and I purchased 1 ha near Te Awamutu last winter and will build a house when we sell our current place nearby. As soon as we got it we planted cherry trees to line the future driveway and started an orchard. Have been expanding the orchard this winter and planted a line of liquid amber trees. We will also extend the line of cherries.
No animals yet. A neighbour has made a couple of crops of silage and grazed his steers on it.
It has been great to have a blank canvas to design our dream house and garden on and we have a lot more dreaming and designing to go.

Hello Ozymandias, and welcome!!
I have just joined today myself.
I can understand how great it feels to design and plan your own place - have been through that a few years back and wouldn't want to have missed this experience!
All the best with your endeavor

Hi Ozzymandias, your plans sound very exciting
We bought a place recently with quite a lot of established garden but no orchard to speak of. It's all been a bit neglected over the last five years or so too, so not quite a blank canvas but plenty of room for improvement which has been a lot of fun. There were a few straggly fruit trees on the side of the property that cops a bit of wind exposure so one of the first things we did was get some slated fencing up in various layers to create wind breaks and shelters for the food growing areas. We've planted a couple of hedges as well to add another layer of protection, with one having the added bonus of being a food producing hedge. Its done nothing but rain for the last few months so has been a challenge trying to get our vege area sorted but we have made progress and I'm looking forward to spring
I hope your house sells soon so you can move on with the next stage of your adventure!

Welcome to all of you!
how fun and exciting to have a blank canvas to play with! Feel free to ask lots of questions - everyone on here is really helpful, and the myriad experiences will offer you a lot of different view points. (albeit sometimes confusing [

Hi there, I'm also a blank 5 acre canvas. So welcome to art school. Planning seems to be so important to get flow on the property.
