Evening all,
We bought a 5 acre block on the outskirts of Hamilton in late 2012 and then spent the next year working out what to do with it. We're now building a house and should move in mid-April. About half the block is being kept in paddocks (it was formerly part of a dairy farm) with the rest for the house, orchard, front yard for kids etc. Looking to run a couple of beefies and a few hens, with a decent orchard and garden.
I have been reading LSB for some time but suspect I will be posting questions here a bit more often about some of the finer points of running a small block. I might even post a few "don't do this" stories to keep you old hands amused
Thanks,
Bruce

Evening all,
Well let's try that again - somehow my post got lost  I wonder if I only previewed it rather than hitting submit?
My wife and I bought a 5 acre block on the outskirts of Hamilton in 2012 and then spent the next 12 months working out what to do with it. We're now building a house with a view to moving in mid-April.
Half of the block is being left as paddocks with the other half for the house, orchard, garden, room for the kids etc. Currently thinking we'll run a couple of beefies and a few hens, but am also keen to get a good orchard going soon.
I have been reading LSB for some time but I expect I'll be posting a few questions here now as we come to the finer points of running a small block. I might even share a few "don't do this" stories to keep you old hands amused
Thanks,
Bruce
