Hello from Rangiriri
Just got an 11 acre block near Huntly. Really new to all this and super excited about planting some native trees/plants for the region. Looking for help and will offer help as required.

Looking forward to hearing stories and tips from other more experienced people

Once you know what you want to plant, its worthwhile checking out the stock and pricings at Farrells pukekohe too.

i will plant some natives and fruit and nut trees. no livestock for now as we will only be there for weekends to fish and camp. thanks for your responsekindajojo;481340 wrote: welcome to the site , what are you going to be doing with your 11 acres. Planting and stock don't usually mix, the stock will win unless you have good fencing.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah...we are itching to get down to the land a bit more. The timing was right in some ways and wrong in others. We just had a new baby (1st one) and now restricted to when/when we can do on the land.
There is a boat shed backing onto the lake, which i will fix up and make it a temporary weekend residence.
I am so excited to be on this site. Already learning a few tricks from the experts on here.

Hi, it is Lake Whangape.LMCL65;481498 wrote: kl281071 not sure which lake but is it the one you can't use because of toxins in the water? Only mention it so you can be careful. Hopefully it isn't that one.

Thanks so much for the advise. I don't have anything valuable to store down there. We will make sure we lock up the canadian indian canoe though.
Swaggie, are you nearby in the area?

Hi unfortunately that is the one I am pretty sure, you are not recommended to have any water to skin contact from the Waikato regional council sites.kl281071;481499 wrote: Hi, it is Lake Whangape.

I'm approx 25 minutes away via the back roads. We use it as a shortcut to head south on most occasions. makes a change from the motorway.

You may be referring to this. www.waikatodhb.govt.nz/news/pageid/2145881125.html
Seems the lake quality is well monitored, and as they say, common sense is good. I have heard they can catch very large coarse fish in there. Wouldn't it be a great battle to land a 30-40lber
Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

i am looking forward to getting on the canoe and catching some carp/eel in the lake. I also see a number of duck shooting huts. I am not into shooting. Just hope i don't see the poor things struggling.swaggie;481535 wrote: they make good garden fertiliser too. [

Although a delicacy in Europe if put on ice very quickly after catching.
I think the water warning was lifted in 2012.
It does pay to be careful though....
