We're a young couple looking for a piece of land to build a house on, probably in the Waikato area. Around an acre would do us, more would be a bonus.
We've got a budget of around about $100,000 which from what we've seen limits us to about 20mins from a town or more. (eg Raglan, Otorohanga)
So we are wondering where abouts there might be a bunch of people in the Waikato living off the land and the like, so we could have some neighbours to interact with.
We want to build an eco house and have extensive permaculture gardens, with chickens and a couple of goats.
Any one got any tips? Could possibly look to provinces bordering the Waikato, such as the western bay of plenty area.
Coromandel peninsula would be great but is probably out of our pricerange.
Cheers!
Nathan (and Jess)

contact the real estate companies & of course look on TM & see whats around
Animals rule our place... cows, calves, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, donkeys, chickens, ducks... the list goes on
...."lifestyle block like" 25 or so acres around the house attached to a rather large farm with dairy drystock & a 600 cow dairy conversion

We were both born in the Waikato, and lived for the first 10 years here. Me - Tatuanui and my partner in Te Aroha, so it seems like a familiar area.
It's close to most of our family.
The Waikato seems to be quite proactive in environmental things (surprisingly) and allowed the first Earthship in NZ to be built. Which is what we want to build also

We've signed a contract for a section, but the covenants might trip us up, see how we go.

that, and come the apocalypse i only need to blow up two bridges to stop aucklanders getting out.
i think there's too much crime in the waikato (it's not my iwi, so i'm fair game) that goes un-dealt to etc.
...here, i can shoot and bury thieveing c*nts.
i think you'll find once you get out of "the system" you'll be a lot happier. which can be anywhere. i'm loosely tied to the "freeman" movement and we're looking at some kind of commune type living. i've got family land up here so i'm developing that right now for my tamariki + moko , next year, who knows?
there's at least 3 families looking for an "off grid" tax free possie to live out and die on... keep in touch.
