Hi All

We are also refugees from ChCh. We would love to be able to stay here by the river but we have been thwarted in being redzoned not once but twice. So we have also taken the plunge and are making a big change by buying 10 acres in Coalgate.

We have to be out of our house by the end of April so we will build a shed/barn on our land and live in that while we build our house. Funny how things turn out as we would never have looked at this as option - not for a few years anyway.

We are now be excited to be moving to the country and living somewhere without wonky, pothole filled roads, houses being demo'd and sightseers driving up and down our street constantly.

Good times ahead and we look forward to learning from you all.

Cheers

Margie & Allan :)

Thanks for the welcome. And yes lots of learning to do. We are lucky that the people we bought the land off are still living next door and happy to help. :)

Yep had a new Scope of works done on monday so 10 days will tell us whether we are a rebuild or repair. Case manager knows we would be interested in a cash offer instead of rebuilding on the same land so is looking into that for us. We'd also get demo costs as well. We'd then keep the existing house and do it up a bit then rent it out. It'd be freehold so the rent pays part of the mortgage on the new place.

Sister in law bought up Pig Saddle Road and we go up there when we can and don't want to leave.

We are looking for something from an acre to .........whatever comes up cheap

Looking to run sheep, bees, goats, chooks, 2 dogs, 3 cats and a turtle. Looking from Little River, Leeston, Dunsandel, Darfield, Springfield areas. Prefering to stay south of the Waimak at this stage.

Plenty of sheds and trees would be good as well as bore supplied water as rainfall is unpredictable.

Have always been a country boy at heart and did all the farming subjects at school so have a decent grasp of country life.
