Joining LSB from Waikanae (Kapiti)

Just purchased 12 acres in Waikanae - we are a family of 4 + dog. I have been browsing/lurking for a while and dreaming of the perfect place...

Putting this into reality now and planning on cattle, chickens, a pony and also a big organic veggie garden The adventure begins with our moving date late November 2012.

Welcome - I'm just up the road in Te Horo but my lsb is minute compared to yours. I'm just starting my veggie patch -using Kings seeds - and hope to be "organic". Using this growing year as an experiment to see what grows and what doesn't:D

Thanks for the welcome. I've had a residential veggie garden that is all organic, in 3 raised boxes. I love the 'Wally's garden guide", he also has a website. My advice would be only grow what you usually eat, but then, if you have the space I guess you can give away what you don't like (e.g. the silverbeet) or feed to the chooks Herbs, lettuce, tomato, broccoli, sugarsnap peas and sweetcorn were winners with our kids... The good thing with getting the seeds is that you can grow varieties not stocked in garden centres - which seeds are you ordering?

Hello there, just up the road as well in Otaki, though often in Waikanae. There seems to be a lot of us in the area, wondering if a local get together would be good.

Yes and I'm a bit further up at Ohau. A lower end get together sounds a good idea, especially with all the new folks around!

I can offer my place, it has loads of covered and uncovered decks, so even if it is chucking it down with rain the BBQ can still be on outside. And it is sort of in the middle between Ohau and Waikanae.

Thank you for the offer, kai - when would it suit you to meet up? Might be good to fit in a get-together this side of Xmas... what do you think?

It would have to be a Saturday as Sundays are often taken up with open homes, and not the 24th November.

We'll be moving house on the 24th November... How about Saturday 3rd or 10th of November?
