I am very excited about becoming a lsb owner although it is only a very very small lsb!! Thought we'd start small and work up. I have been reading the forums for months to help gain as much info as possible about what I could (and shouldn't) do with the minute amount of land we have. Chickens feature on my wish list as do Alpacas (only 2 though), a self-sufficient veggie patch. All ideas and hints/tips gratefully received. Thought to take a year to work out what is currently planted and what I need/want including passion fruit. And feijoas to allow dh to make his scrumptious wine!!

Hi LongRidge. I was born in Taunton -which is the county town of Zummerset. And I was there 30 years ago! What took you to Wiveliscome?

Yes I know Yeovil but not a place that I went to that often - just to watch Yeovil Town play football on their sloping pitch - that sorted the boys from the men playing on that pitch!!

With a small block keep in mind that Alpacas have long necks which fit through sheepnetting and so you need to set back planting along their paddock fences or put mesh on the fences. We have a nicely trimmed new hedge - now about 10cm high - which I thought was well out of reach!

Hello Kai and Sue - nice to be thought of as a local. :)

Many thanks Murray100 - I'll remember that when putting up the fencing for the Alpacas. All info very gratefully received.

Have started packing and can't believe how much rubbish we have amassed in the 11 years we've been here. Op shop here we come!

My maternal grandfather was the South Devon Flockbook (yes, there are sheep called South Devons, too) keeper in Plymouth.
My aunt and her husband has a grocery shop in Wiveliscombe, and used to do deliveries out into the countryside (including to Baden Powell's widows country house). I did my OE there one NZ winter.
