Hi we have bought a 100 acres in North Otago. Small house with solar and wind power. We will be doing some fencing and gardening in the weekends as we live in Dunedin. Hope to move there one day and be as self sufficient as possible. All organic too. Broom is our biggest problem at the moment as the gorse will be a good nurse crop for the trees we will be planting.
Cheers,

Welcome aboard. Broom is not a problem if you have cattle or goats as both will eat it quite happily. In a very few years a large proportion of the broom will be gone as the goats in particular seek it out in preference to good pasture. The gorse will be more of a problem long term. Although both sheep and goats will eat the soft shoots and goats will strip the bark they will only control it at best and you will never really be rid of it.
