She wishes for the Cloths of Heaven!
Enwrought with the golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams beneath your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams
W.B Yeats
Ive lurked on this site for many years, even became a member when still in the UK with the nagging doubts of "Could we really do it"?
I had this dream you see...
When i was a little snotty nosed kid a teacher took me to her farm for the day. I think she felt sorry for my sister and I. She was actually my sister's teacher so I was aware I was only there by default. But I wasn't proud and loved every moment of eating yummy things sitting in the cosy kitchen warmed by a cast iron range. I remember all the very different smells and being truely enveloped by it all.
I have always kept chooks and done 'farmy' things. My urban family think I am hilarious and quite possibly a nutcase. Maybe so, but I get so much enjoyment from making my own stuff or learning something new.
My name is Mia and my hubby and daughter are about to move onto a small lifestyle block of 3 acres in the Waikato. My dream has come true
I feel I know so many of you as I read your trials and tribulations and even cried when I finished Althea's letters [

We have so much to learn. In time I want a housecow and few pigs but that will have to wait a little whilst we ensure the house is fit to live in. Poor old girl has been so neglected but she has good bones and will come up a treat with TLC, hard work and $$$. She will one day have a wraparound deck but for now we have to mend her hat. I can't believe we are buying a house with a corrugated roof. Corrugated iron is only ever used for sheds in the UK...so once again the family must be thinking I have lost my mind

My beloved Orpington chooks will love the new place and I can't wait to see them running about.
Ooops...bit of a long introduction... HELLO, WE ARE VERY EXCITED!

We too have a wee cottage with an iron roof - it also needed a lot of tlc but it is so lovely now. Your chooks will make you smile big time when they're running around! We all need dreams.

We don't move in until the 16th March and its killing me waiting and waiting and packing. I took my daughter to school this morning and made a little detour to the property. Like a nutter I stared at her for ages...I hope no one saw me. The land is in maize at the moment and you can barely see the house. Her setting is really open with only one enormous Japanese walnut tree right up against the house with branches overhanging the roof. It will have to come down in time...such a shame.

I'm ticked pink that it is your favourite poem, mine too. I know you...well I feel I do. I first read your blog when in the UK. My husband had a boat called Darroch when we were living in Cornwall. How spooky is that!
I love what you have done with the wee place, you should be so proud of yourselves. I want your range, well actually I wish I had made the effort and brought a rayburn out with me with some old rads. I did think about it but it seemed a lot of work....I'm sorry now. I think I will save my pennies and get a Homewood in time...only $11000 [:0]
Have a lovely day

$11,000 !!!! now that's frightening. When we looked round the house before we bought it I saw the range and thought "aw cute" I had no idea we'd actually need it and it was functional! I just thought it was pretty. Doh! How we learn. [

Anyway, good luck with everything. Oh and I totally get your taking a detour to have a look. When we found this place we had to go back to the Uk for 5 weeks not knowing if we could afford it or not - we went back for a sneaky look from the road and I started to cry - just as the owner saw us peeking and invited us back up for coffee - I said must be hayfever or something - but he so knew! (probably thinking - blast I should have put the price up! ) actually not really, they were a lovely couple.

Funny you should say that about your lovely old couple. The couple selling us this house are the nicest nicest people....honestly, so kind and thoughtful. She really got what it meant to us and even whispered at one stage that if we couldn't get the finance (It was 'touch and go' at one stage) that she would let us rent it until we had saved enough deposit.
I was blown away...still am really. When I get a minute after moving in she is going to get my very best 'to die for' carrot cake, whether she likes it or not

Got to goooooooooo
