ours is sprouting around the tap where I dropped some when making up the barley to soak for our pigs - not quite deliberate though I am guessing you are looking at a larger volume sprouting than my accident. We used to sprout the grain before feeding it to the pigs but it was a bit of a hassle and in the warm tended to go mouldy quicky so I have an old slow cooker and cook batches up now - also a hassle but it does not go mouldy.
