South Auckland Newbie

Hi there, my name is Kirsten. My husband and I have recently bought 2.7 hectares in South auckland, two thirds are in mature convenanted bush and we have a roughly 1 acre paddock. Haven't been here long but we are absolutely lovin it, great to have different sized jobs to do, from 5 minute jobs to 5 year jobs! Planing on grazing the paddock, not sure what with yet and looking after the bush. We have some new zealand made possums traps to try out which we're excited about as the buggers are all over the place, will be keeping a tally, perhaps carved into the fence posts as a warning . Great to have found this website, heaps of useful info and likeminded folk.

It sounds like you have a great little project there and starting with the possums will be great for the bush and the environment.
I see too many covenanted sites where the bush just gets overgrown by weeds and neglected as its not seen as being part of the property, but a covenanted piece 'over there'.
Developers have to pay a bond usually to council to ensure that the covenanted area is maintained but I dont think that they follow through on that given the state of many covenanted blocks I have seen up this way around rodney.
Its good to see that you regard your bush as an asset to be looked after

We got 18 possums out of our bush section in Belmont, Lower Hutt in the 4 years we were there. Good luck with your hunting.
