Hi :)
I'm a young mother of two, wife of one[;)], and full time kindy teacher. We live on a residential property in a rural township, and I'm lucky to have my retired standardbred (Grand old age of 5) just behind my house.

In a few years time we're hoping to move what will then be our family of 5 up to a lifestyle block in Taranaki. Somewhere over 5 acres but under 10, a home that will hopefully be in the family for generations. We have our eyes wide open, a plumber and joiner in the family. There are so many pitfalls to what we are trying to do, but the benefits too are immense.

One goal of our property will be to be as self - suffiecent as possible. The dreamhouse: strawbale. The budget friendly less stressful streamlined option:a barnhouse. One shall see!

I've joined these forums partially for horse help, a tad for education, and a wee bit for direction from those in Taranaki as to where to get quotes, while we at at the very beginning of this journey.

Wish me luck!

Welcome to the forum - from another kindergarten teacher on a lifestyle block in Canterbury lol.

Have you a particular area in Taranaki that you are interested in? I have friends on the outskirts of Hawera who brought an old dairy company (which also has two houses on it) and are gradually renovating it. They have chickens, a house cow with calf at foot and a menagerie of other assorted pets. They could keep their ear to the ground in the upcoming years if it's an area you like - but it is a long way from New Plymouth (as in the city) if you need NP for work...
