buying chook pellets as a group was created by Queenie's Girl
Hi there, One of our first chooks, a few years ago now, was a magnificent Silver Wyandotte who looked like Queen Victoria with her big 'bustle'. Her daughters continue providing us with eggs and meat altho now we've got a rainbow of breeds. To keep feed costs down, a friend and I buy a ton of pellets (40 bags) direct from the factory. It saves $5 per 25kg bag. Is there anyone else nearby who would like to share our deal?

Welcome Queenie's Girl, it might help a little if we know where you are [;)]

It might also be worth knowing what brand of pellets you are buying.

Funny you should bring up this topic, Queenie's Girl. Just last week I went to the inaugural meeting of the Sandringham Transition Towns group, and we decided to establish a poultry feed co-op.

So far there aren't enough of us to be able to buy in bulk at a discount, but at least we can share the transport costs. So if anyone in Auckland City is interested in joining our co-op, just let me know! :)

We're in Amberley, North Canterbury and we buy Weston Milling pellets from Rangiora. Sorry about my lack of technical skills - trying to update my profile...
thanks for your replies!

Excellent Steph. :) So far we're aiming to try Chook Chow, Fiskens Layers Pellets (and Mash) and two brands of organic feed - one pellet and one mash. We're still in the early stages of co-opping so we haven't worked out the details yet. Our second meeting is next week.
