We are a couple of old waxheads who chose to live in Curio Bay in the South Catlins because of the great waves and sheer rugged beauty of the place. The only piece of dirt availble to buy was 3 acres carved off a sheep farm. No shelter, no house, just grass. 8 years on we have a house, the shelter is now 1-1.5m and we can grow good garlic and anything else that can handle 30knot westerlies and horizontal rain. We have done an organic growing course and are still trying to figure out how to plan the property and how to eke out an existence here. We have just acquired 6 witshire sheep and will need help with these as we know nothing about livestock. But the grass grows well and there is plenty of it. SHelter is the big challenge down here. We will definitely be asking lots of questions on the forum!

Hi and welcome. I can at least say I've been through your area, yes quite exposed and windswept. We stayed the night at Papatowai-another spectacular part of the coast!

Ask away, there are lots of people with sheep that will be of help!
