itty bitty block

We have just brought our first itty bitty (1 acre) lifestyle property. At the moment we are tackling the 1/4 acre around the house which is nice but been a bit neglected (hubby in chainsaw paradise). We would like to get (hopefully in the not too distant future) a beehive, chickens and a few sheep. Hubby grew up on farms and we have a few farming family and friends in the area.

At the moment we have 3 kids, 1 cat, 1 dog and 2 newly aquired goldfish for the pond.

I would not consider a beehive on 1 acre. There are lots of rules and regulations about owning bees now, and with only 1 acre, you won't be able to put them far enough away for them to not be a nuisance to your washing and your household.

I beg to differ on this one. My neighbour has a 1/4 acre section and has a beehive on it. He also has 5 kids. None of them have been stung to date. The bees are docile and have not caused any problems for any of us, in fact our apple set was so good last season, I hope he increases the hive when he splits it this winter so we will get good plum set as well. We have seen first hand just how good urban dwelling bees can be.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

you post gave me a bit of a fright, we have McGillicuddy just a few doors down the road from us. I think they have quite a few acres. ( from the original McGillicuddy Serious Party)

Lol ... I was thinking of the political party when I chose the screen name, Other then that it was just a random name.

My husbands cousin has 2 beehives on her residential property. She has offered to help me set a hive here if I want her to.
