There's a Saleyards Road at Wellsford.... :D but altho' I go thru' Wellsford quite often I haven't noticed it sorry. It is a good sale, I have sent stock there rather than my local at Kauri. A lot of beef finishing farms around there. Good luck, great weather up here at the moment too eh? I sent 8 to Silver Fern works and was astonished at the good price they are paying.

Hi, thanks for that, managed to find the yards was a good price i got for my heifers worked out at $748 each Av live weight 348kg. Commision was $240 which i thought was good (just got to pay for the cartage now) No more agents for me going to do it myself from now on, a lot easier than i thought.

Right beside the A&P show grounds more or less

Greenas, congratulations on your first sale.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

The most useful toy that we have bought is a pair of weigh bars and a cattle platform. With the weighbars I've weighed hay bales, big straw bales, baleage bales, horses and donkeys, cattle, and have made a plywood catch pen for sheep and goats.
With this knowledge I can weigh the animals before they go to the works to ensure that I get paid for mine. The few times that I now sell through the saleyard I have a good idea of what the animal weighs so that I can get a better idea of whether I'm getting a reasonable price.
Now I sell the calves privately on bodyweight, and the lambs and bull direct to the works. The works agent gets a small commission but nowhere near as much fees as selling through the yards. Down here you have to work with the works agent to arrange the date for your animals to get ready to do their OE. Some stock and station agents also buy for some works, but some offer you a price and take the risk that the animal they buy will grade and weigh what they think that it will.
