Hi, my husband, two over 18-year-old sons & myself are moving into a farm at Prebbleton Christchurch this month. Our aim is to set up a self-sufficient farm so that Christians who have skills are able to live and work together with us (not necessarily full time). Free accommdations will be provided.

This farm (14 acres) has accommodation and business potential while another block of bareland (15 acres) has vegetation potential.

All skills will be considered, like building, gardening. vege growing, animal raising, etc. Successful applicants are entitled to share profits from the farm.

This farm's got a house, aquestrian training tracks and 19 stables which we're considering to convert into accommodation. It has accommodation & business potential. Our other block of bareland (15 acres) which situated near the farm has templeton moderately deep silt loam and has vegetation potential. We hope that Christian people who have skills and share the vision of setting up a self-sufficient community through living & working together. Even folks who have their own jobs are welcomed if only they can contribute in the weekends.

Hello and welcome. My name is Peter and I am the officail shit-stirrer here in this forum. [;)]

Please note, this is only my opinion:

I feel very offended by your post. Serioulsy. I had many situations myself where I was called back by the forums police for non-PC posts. But I think none of those situations were as bad as this one.

Would you send Jews/Muslims/Buddhists/Hindus/Atheists etc away? Where is the difference when saying "I only want Christians" compared to "I only want white people?" Or Heterosexuals. Or right handed people?

Sorry my reputation is down the drain anyway so I don't really care. But yes I am very offended by your post. I was thinking long about writing this. I decided I at least need to say my opinon and to say that I think this is not right! Isn't Christianity based on loving your neighbour no matter what he believes in? Or does it say "love your neighbour as long as he is Christian"?

The other day Kate thought it necessary to question Rob's post in the off topic section because it was too political. I would like to ask the moderators to consider this post here as too offensive for members of non-Christian religions.

Cheers

Peter

I kind of get where you are coming from PeterNZ, however jswgracetv didn't specifically say that "non-christians" were excluded, she merely extended her invitation to christians.

Perhaps, if a non-christian was interested in joining the community and made an enquiry, they would be welcomed?

Also, she could have made an assumption (rightly or wrongly) that non-christians would not be interested in living in a community of christians?

Anyway, I say good on them...whatever way my beliefs sway in the way of religion, I love the whole self-sufficient commune idea because everyone in this world has something to add...(even if sometimes they don't show it)

Hi Peter, thanks for taking the time to express your opinion. I totally agree with you that the post can sound offensive to some people, but our situation requires us to offer free accommodation to those accepted into the farm. In fact, it appears easier for us to reach agreements between like-minded people who share the same belief when it comes to live & work together.

Loving your neighbours doesn't mean you have to live & work with your neighbours. Everybody should be entitled to select the environment he/she prefers, right?

True and as a heathen man i think christians living together is good. It lets us know where to sail our long ships and collect danegeld.
Hail Thor!

Bræðr munu berjask ok at bönum verðask,
munu systrungar sifjum spilla;
hart er í heimi, hórdómr mikill,
skeggöld, skalmöld, skildir ro klofnir,
vindöld, vargöld, áðr veröld steypisk;
mun engi maðr öðrum þyrma.

Brothers shall fight | and fell each other,
And sisters' sons | shall...

Sorry, I don't understand this post. Can you please explain what you mean? I know what a heathen man is (I'd take that as a detrimental statement), I can understand the advantage for christians of them living with "like-minded" people, as jswgracetv states, but that is the same for any like-minded people.

I'm guessing "danegeld" is the key to your post, but have looked up the definition and am still in the dark...

Maybe you could put it in laymans terms?

I think what you are doing is great as i have said. i don't understand why peter would get so defensive about your post. I am sure you would welcome anybody that was willing to contribute to your comminty. if someone wanted to start another type of belief farm there is no law against that either.

what is self sufficiency??? if it includes working for a wage to then pay for fuel, electricity and a combine harvester to do the grains etc is it self sufficiency? i would hazzard a guess that if you had a community of 20 + people then no-one would have time for a "real job" if they were to do all the self sufficiency stuff (such as grains) by hand

very close myself but my time is more valuble contributing skills to outside of my community/family. Only thing i would really lack is a vineyard and an olive oil supply to match my demand!

Self sufficiency - does this include vehicle fuel - now that is the kicker!

and if PeterNZ is the stirrer then i would have to be the "" keep it factual, lawful and accurate police"! with a zero tolerance for any animal welfare incursions being it knowingly or via stupitidity and ignorance (I try and be educative for the latter two)

I love animals...they're delicious

KS, I disagree. grace seems to be asking for assistance of some kind - shareholders I think.
When I worked out the sized farm that I would need to keep the 4 of us in a small profit running sheep and beef cattle, it was 3400 stock units. This works out to about 1000 acres in Prebbleton, unless there is irrigation that does not require electricity to pump it.
With irrigation and heaps of the correct fertiliser, grace has a small chance of making some profit out of 29 acres (less land with houses on it) if she/he grows herbs and flowers, and is able to have about 6 labour units running the picking and packing sheds.
grace, a nice dream, but have a plan B for when the nightmare starts to prevent it being a complete disaster. Remember that most people last about 4 years on a life sentence block.
