Hi, we have a two acre plot with pigs and sheep just outside Whangarei. We are beside a river which floods quite frequently and has left one paddock with swamp weed, which we cannot seem to kill off.
Would welcome any help with this problem please

Welcome to the forum.
Please describe the "swamp weed". Do you know what else it might be called, or have pictures?

There is a common ground cover called swamp weed, here is a link to a picture of it.....
www.mooresvalleynurseries.co.nz/catalogu...08d93/catalogue.aspx
I suspect however that what you have is what is called swamp willow. Here is a link to pictures of that.... just the top eight pictures are willow weed. Move the cursor onto the piccie for an enlargement
www.google.co.nz/images?q=%22willow+weed...wCQ&biw=1003&bih=576
It is what I have on the edge of my stream and I have to keep on top of it with 24d amine. Here is a link to a blurb in case it is what you are smitten with.

If this is not it, then as they say, "one picture is worth a thousand words".............Could that be the reason why one picture of Winston Peters leaves me wordless?

Hi
Live in Whangarei as well and have 1.5km of river boundary. I'd need to see photos but educated guess is either Willow Weed or Water Pepper OR Alligator Weed. First 2 are easily controlled with any Tordon Product (or 2,4D Amine or Metsulfuron), last one is a real bugger to get rid of - grows from fragments of the plant. Metsulfuron 600 WDG is a good option - you aren't allowed to spray it (or Tordon or 2,4D Amine) over water - it'll need to be done when the weeds are high and dry.
Post a photo (or send me a PM) and I'll try to help more. Cheers - Pete.

Tomorrow is the day I will stop procrastinating.
Kate, this is exciting news! Is there any way that it could also be presented as a page of pics, rather than a list of names? If I see something that I think might be a weed, it would be easier to confirm by browsing pics... just a thought.
