Hello I'm joining this journey

My name is Laurette and I am a single mother of a 10 year old boy. I have just under two acres in the Waikato and built a new home on it about 3 years ago but only got to stay one year before marrying and moving to a pine forest in Northland. I have now returned and look forward to completing the project I started. I currently have two goats, one dog, one cat, 7 ducks, three chickens 8 chicks and one rooster. I hope to put a cow or two on the land eventually. I work full time but have the next 8 weeks to reestablish things here. My first urgent project is to fence around the chicken coop to the area I want as an orchard and hope to stop my little dog eating the chicks!

So far Jenny it appears that as long as I have her on a leash!! the chooks are safe, this of course is an entirely practical option that fits nicely with the lifestyle living?! I have contacted a fencer and hopefully the orchard will be fenced off shortly.

Dog proof fences are your best friend

You could always try confining the dog in a crate in the chicken area. They can be trained to leave the chickens alone.
