Hi, I'm Lisa and a single mother to 3 kids, aged 5, 4 and 2. We moved to a rental house in the country in Tauranga, with a half hectare, in April. It had only boundary fencing, so I fenced off a quarter acre and put 2 lambs in for the freezer.
Then bought 2 battery shaver chooks on a whim one day for $2 each for eggs. Then had to build a fence when they realised they could walk more than a couple of metres.
I now have a large paddock area fenced off with 2 shaver hens, 2 silkie hens for broodyness, 2 light sussex hens, 2 barred rock hens and 1 barred rock roo.
Shavers for eggs, the rest to breed and eat.
I bought 2 more barred rock cockerels today for $3 each so will have a go at killing and plucking etc to see if I can do it :)
Brought up a city South Auckland girl so it's nice to give my kids a bit of country upbringing and to show them food doesn't have to come from the supermarket.

Thank you Sue. I have been studying a few of your threads on cobb raising lately, you are a mine of information.
