We had a Morris 1000 too. It was in 1966 the first year we got married and we loved it! We lived in Dunedin at the time up on the hill at Caversham and the Morrie didn't seem at all bothered by the terrain!
Mauriceville is a great wee place too and in fact it was a holiday at Iharaua that was our introduction to the Wairarapa and subsequently buying our block here. So welcome MF

Hi all,
we are Steve and Amanda and we are looking at a weekend retreat to get back to nature and to finally retire in. We have seen a section in Whitianga and we are road tripping on Tuesday up North to see what is up there.
We will have lots questions on things and hope we will get lots of help.
We are looking at a half round or plywood style living but need to find out which way is going to be the best financially for us.
Other things are septic compared to compost toilet.
And probably heaps more questions when we start finding suitable locations.
looking forward to the forums

Hi. I used to live in Thames, so knew the Coro Pen fairly well. I guess that if you are considering septic tanks then you are looking at an LSB.
Remember that we don't give advice, because you have to pay for that ..... :-)
But questions often involve lots of opinions, and the only silly question is the one that you should have asked about. I see this forum as an opportunity to avoid or minimise the mistakes that we have made, which should be to your animals (and perhaps your pocket's) advantage.

Well we went a day early for our road trip up Northland. Was a little disheartening. Saw about 7 sections, and nothing jumped out at us. We did decide that Northland was not for us, so we did achieve something. We keep going back to the section in Whitianga. We can't finalise anything until the other house sells, and who knows how long that will take.
Have had the pleasure of seeing a couple of half round barn houses and am really leaning that way.
I guess the next step is to contact environment Waikato & the geotech engineers for their reports on the Whitianga section.

My name is Ben and I come in search of A2 milk.

I'm slightly intolerant to normal milk and milk products so I tried some A2 upon recommendation from a friend and found that it didn't give me the same problems as regular milk.

Now that I can have milk without symptoms I find myself consuming rather more of the stuff than is good for my wallet (student). I was wondering if there are any friendly folk from Christchurch in here who have access to A2 milk and would be willing to sell some? Straight from the teat would be great as me and my flatmate are also considering cheese making. Full cream, unhomogenized A2 would fit the bill beautifully :)

Welcome Ben. Have you read Prof Woodford's review of A2 milk, called "Devil In The Milk". If you have, you might have noticed that only cows with one or two A1 genes make A1 milk. All other mammals do not make A1. Thus, if your problem is A1 then goat or sheep milk might also help you. Another thing about the A1 molecule is that one of the bits that causes allergies happens because of heating. So if you cannot get A2 cows milk, or goats milk (either pasteurised or unpasteurised), then unpasteurised A1 milk might help your problem/s.

Kenny here, just joined this wonderful site. My partner Mike and I have a 10 acre piece of paradise in Rangiora breeding mainly horses (standies) and chickens (Black Orpingtons, White Shavers, Wyandottes and Sussex). On the lookout for Exchequer Leghorns or Delawares if anyone has them or eggs.
