Another Northlander.... was created by johnandkarey
Figured it was about time I properly introduced myself...I'm Karey, married to John & we have a 14month old son. We live just south of Kaikohe on a 800ha sheep & beef farm (my parents') where hubby works & I rear 200+ calves for our lease block near Dargaville. We also own a 3.5ha lifestyle block near Dargaville that is currently for sale so we can realise our dream of buying our own farm to raise our family on.
I have just been 'allowed' to get chooks, something I have always wanted. I have 3 hens so far - 2 SLW (Faith & Shania) & a barred rock/RIR (Reba) & I love them to bits!! DS thinks they are pretty cool but hubby isn't that fussed on the girls, he's just glad that I am happy! I'm even allowed to get another 7 hens (once I've made some more nesting boxes for them)
I try to grow most of the veges we need & started an orchard last year, adding a berry patch this year & rearing a few pigs for the freezer.
Country life is great, no matter what size block you are on! [8D]

Hi Karey and thanks for introducing yourself
Wow - 800ha is a big bit of land! What size farm are you hoping to buy? With a youngster, all those calves and the chooks I imagine you're pretty busy [}

Cheers

Hi Kate,
What ever we can afford! :rolleyes: Its looking likely that we will have to go back dairying so probably looking for 90ha+. I'm not fussed as long as I can have my vege patch, orchard & room for the chooks.
Life is definitely busy but we like it that way, would be a bit boring otherwise!
