Caravan just living the lifestyle was created by DreamsRfree
Hi everyone.

Well after 4 years of living in town (blah!!) it finally got the better of us. I can not live in town, hubby is pretty much the same. I'm one of those horsey gals (hey we can't help it, it's an addiction, lol). We are on a VERY ltd income our only choice was to hire a large caravan and set it up on a family Kiwifruit orchard. LOVING the rural living again *aggghhhhh* lovely! But where do you put a horse on a very small orchard? And the middle of the night 'trips to the loo' aint too much fun. Well we gotta do what we gotta do. Got some "temporary" grazing (nextdoor) for our little equine darling. She's quite happy for now to be behind tapes between the Kiwifruit. Still really haven't resolved the dilemma of the trips to the loo (ha ha) but hey, not so bad this time of year. Not quite sure what to when we have to 'skip to the loo' in the winter months though??

Would actually be VERY cool if we can find a cosy converted shed/barn (or otherwise) prior to the onset of winter - along with a paddock for our GG.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING LIKE THAT AROUND THE TAURANGA/TEPUKE AREAS? HAS TO BE A CHEAPIE THOUGH.

We have 4 cats who LOVE to hunt rats! Honestly I grab the garden trowel very single morning to scoop up dead large rodents to throw out to the bush to compost. Ewk! But hubby won't do it! lol.

Anyway - thats me - I once was a land owner (previous life / previous husband, haha - but now just dream to have a rural rental for our little family - minus the caravan and plus some form of accommodation)

:)

Our house is in a valley, on the side of a hill surrounded by quite a few large/original totaras. The housebuilder lived in a caravan on the property for a couple of years to work out the exactly best position for the house. He found the site that was best suited for the sun in summer and winter, the northerly and southerly winds, and reasonable close to the main road and power and phone services. So, if you can handle it, hang out in the caravan for a couple of winters.
We have a couple of horses, and a few (19) donkeys. Donkeys are far less hardy than horses because they have a thinner fat layer and a non-greasy hair/skin. Ours have never been covered, and don't like sheds. Our Shetland is approaching 35yo, as are a couple of the donkeys. Why do your horses need a shed?

Hi and welcome to lsb :D

We're living in a hut on our block and would also love to have something more solid before winter... Our three cats love to catch things too but we kiwi in the bush here so they're sharing with us - and keeping us awake :(

Good luck!

Reading your notes made me smile. My now ex husband and I lived in a caravan for 12months before our house was built. Not an experience i would ever repeat, however it is true that seeing your property through 12 months will give you a much better idea of how to set it up.

The outdoor loo - had that too. An upside down telephone box! over a horrible long drop. One day I went to use it and there were eye's glowing up at me. I screamed and apparently gave the neighbours a chuckle. However I was wild with my husband when he later told me he had shot a rabbit, couldn't think what to do with it, so had thrown it down the long drop. Uh.

Best of luck. You will get there. 10 years after moving off 20acres, my new partner have moved onto 11 lovely acres and now my kaimanawa has hills just like in her early life :-) and yes, horses are an addiction.

:) Welcome!

Living in a caravan is a great motivator after a while.. I converted an old bus to live in cheaply on a block whilst saving for my first property. The bus taught me what I needed in life and what I didn't, for the simple reason that there was not enough room to have anything surplus to requirements. Loved living on the block so much I vowed to buy one one day and dreams come true, hope yours do too :D

What's that I just stepped in?

Long ridge I think the shed is for them to live in, not the horse.
We lived cramped in a little cottage for 2.5 years while building our house and have to agree with you westie, no room for any junk or extras. No we have been in our house for 8 months and are still only using what we used in cottage - all the other 'stuff' (clothes, toys, kitchen things etc) is up in attic needing to be sorted and taken to opp shop or sold. Long drops are good too, cos they make you really appreciate flush toilets when you get one.

Some people are so poor, all they have is money.
