I finally managed to start getting the hang of my spinning wheel and this is the first bit of homespun wool I produced from some carded wool which I got with one of my looms.

It is a shawl for one of our overseas friends, I hope she likes it. :D

I took several Arapawa fleeces into the Woolfest last month and one of the lovely black & coloured sheep breeder ladies showed me how to properly prepare it all for carding and handcrafts, so it went off with one of the carding companies to be prepared for spinning. [8D]

Thanks!

I was actually quite pleased with my spinning efforts in the end, but most of the congratulations should really go to the lovely ladies at my local CreativeFibre group who patiently sorted out my dodgy old spinning wheel and got it working properly and taught me what to do! [;)]

I bought a wooden drop spindle while I was at Woolfest, so I have been playing around with spinning using this ancient instrument.

It's actually quite fast for producing some interesting looking art yarn and because it's so small and highly portable I'm taking it to Spain with me on Monday so I can keep busy on the plane & train etc while I'm away. :D

We had a home school group through Majacraft a couple of weeks ago and the kids really enjoyed using the Spindles, we had CD Spindles for them to use and take home. They are pretty easy to make at home.

I love the shawl, is it crocheted or knitted?

That is beautiful work, both in the spinning and crocheting. Well done!

Thanks!

I've made 3 more shawls out of some black wool I got on TM, 1 for my SIL who has just had a knee op, 1 for a friend who is rather ill at home and feels the cold the 3rd one is all mine! :D

I've got a red lacy one in merino on the go at the moment to dress up my scruffy gear for "cooler" nights out on the town in Spain.
