What can I do with the fleece from our newly shorn ram ?
I dont spin or anything. Is it worth taking it to someone to do ?
Unfortuately our ewe was blade shorn by us as she had fly stike, so her fleece wasnt kept. Normally I use her fleece as weed mat under trees as we just snip her by hand.
But apparently the rams fleece is good quality.

The quality of the fleece I would imagine would relate to the breed of the sheep rather than the sex of the animal ?
I have never heard of a rams fleece as being outstanding compared with ewes.
It makes good garden mulch

Last time we had sheep shorn, we were lucky in that the shearer was doing a big sheep run at a nearby property. We made arrangements with the run's owner to include our wool with his, and got paid for it by weight.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

last year both fleeces went with the wool from the local sheep farm as the guy down the road came and collected the sheep, shore them and returned them. We were not worried about payment for two fleece. We paid him for shearing in beer.

Its not that the gender was important, its just the ram was the only one shorn by the mobile shearing guy, and he said it was good wool. The ewe was done by us and kept well out of sight as I was so embarrassed by the fly strike and the way she looked when we finished with her.

Normally I do use the wool as mulch if we have it, but I was wondering if I could get a few balls of wool done, and if it was worth paying someone to do it.
