When i get time i make stained glass mainly the copper foil and solder method but i can also do house windows as well. The latter being much more expensive.
I mainly do horse/animal designs but can do whatever people want.
Hi Cloverleaf...I have not tried stain glass. My best mate taught stain glass at our local Adult Ed classes until they were cancelled. Unfortunately I have never tried this art/craft form. My specialty is mosaic and I sometimes use offcuts of stained glass in my work. Have you tried mosaic? Cheers! Dianne
yes i have tried mosaic using the left over glass. I made a design in concrete which is in a corner of our patio. I don't think its very good but others seem to like it. Its quite bright and is a talking for people when we hold barbques.
I guess I do two types of mosaic. Ones that I call my 'bread & butter' which are created for selling at markets and they are usually lower in price than my 'art' mosaics. I use mostly broken crockery, preferrably china and porcelein as they are easer to cut. I am unable to get photos loaded on this site - too complicated for me! If you would like to see some of my work you can check on Facebook under Dianne Schnarr Mosaics. Are you able to post pictures of your stained glass? I would love to see them. If you figure out how to post - let me know! LOL! Cheers! Dianne
The person who lived in this house previously did stained glass for the doors of the pantry. Its a rose design and is lovely. I don't know the tequnique but she learned at a local night class.
I have a piece of stained glass, the solder method really. It has been painted and the paint is cracking, how do I clean it up and what do I repaint with?
Any ideas?

At the risk of being accused of hijacking this thread, can any of you knowledgeable artisans tell me how to black lead? I lost a pile of new fishing sinkers recently when they were bitten off by barracuda while being hauled back up They go for shiny things that resemble small fish swimming.
Hubby and I tried this as an evening class years ago, lots of fun but...mine would never be weather proof if I made a window, I am not accurate enough...
Funnily enough met a person from LSB in person at previous gatherings who was also in this same class many years ago! Small world

Hubby went to classes when we lived in our previous house. He made three lovely light shades for the lounge. I wanted to have a go but he felt I wouldn't have the wrist strength for cutting the glass. As for blackening the lead, I'll ask him about that when he gets home.

The stuff i use to blacken the solder is called patina, i've never heard of using the stove black. But if you already have some stove black then give it a go.
Spook, cant help on what paint you would use as proper stained glass is exactly that coloured glass that is cut to shape.
