I have tried to send Kate some photos to put on this site of my finished quilt, it was started in August 2009, and I finished it at the beginning of July 2010. It has turned out really great, thanks to the help of my tutor a wonderful lady that is known throughout the quilting world as Puddle! She had some great advice, and I think that even she is very pleased with my finished quilt. Now onto another one for the oldest grandson, I have started by doing a block with a bay scene with Orchas swimming in the bay. So now have to sort out Surf life Saving things as that is what he has asked for. So its going to be very interesting to get it all done. Then we have to do a Butterfly one for a granddaughter, andother grandson wants a quilt of a tree! So thats going to be a challange, then we have another order from a little grandaughter of a quilt with horses, and thank goodness the littlest grandson, I think will be happy with just tractors and trucks and normal things that kids like. Kate how did you get on downloading those photos, or did I send too many at once and tie up your system big time??
I've got the photos but have just got home after being away for a couple of days. I have to get the cats from the cattery before it closes but as soon as I get back I'll load the photos
It was all domestic machine quilted using the walking foot on my Jenome machine, that was over a months work, but the hardest part was doing around all the crane birds, and also the little rock things on the big panels. That took over two weeks, of working on it every day. Even my tutor is very pleased with it. Now for the next one!!
Wow thats fantastic RaeM
Brilliant job .. very very very very well done
5 retired Greyhounds ( Bridgette , Lilly, GoGo,Sam and now Lenny) 15 friendly sheep all of whom are named and come when you call them , 2 goats, Mollie and Eee Bee :
Olive trees , .. old bugger doing the best he can with no money or land
Not an occupation that would interest me because I too don't have the patience for it but that doesn't stop me recognising the beauty of it. Those two large panels are brilliant and I could imagine a complete quilt done like that. Well done. And keep the cats off it.
Yes I dont think it will go onto any beds for a while, as our cats bring in rabbits, and even come in covered with cow S***T so that would not be a good look, may even give it to one of our daughters yet, the eldest one I think, the 2nd one is getting married again in October, and the partners mum is one of the top Quilters in Aust, so no good giving it as a wedding present, and the youngest one likes Quilts that are scrappy, with lots of old type material. I dont think it would be a good idea to put it on the farmstay beds either, as I am constantly washing the Duvet covers from those beds. Meanwhile we will admire the quilt, and it has turned out really great, and heaps of thanks must go to my tutor who is called Puddle! Maybe I may enter it in a few Quilting events, and let other folks enjoy the look of it as well!
I have started doing another quilt, this time is going to be for a grandson, and will feature Surf Livesaving things, so far, have done the following blocks 1 being a bay with orchas swimming in it, as they get quite a few at Boat Harbour Tasmania where they live, 2, The surf lifesaving badge with a head in the middle, 3, the Boat harbour club colours, 4 A rescue boat with a rescue helicopter flying above it, and 5 a beach scene with surf flag, and a surf board leaning up against it, will take some photos when I have fully finished each block. Any more ideas??
The other things I remember from watching Cronulla surf lifesavers, are the big reel, usually with one guy/girl paying out the line over their head, and Nippers flag races in the sand. Is your rescue boat picture one of the inflatables? How about a scene of one of the traditional wooden surf boat races?
How old is your grandson? Too young for a couple of bikini babes?
Well done, Rae! I'm on the last half-row before doing the finishing touch (slip stitch all the way around) on a crocheted circular blanket for my daughter.
How about doing a sail boat/windsurfer type scene? Or a lighthouse/beachy scene with seagulls, etc.?

Featuring Wap Spotted, sire of the first Wap Spot 2 grandget in Southern Hemisphere and New Zealand
On the first day God created horses. On the second day He spotted the best ones.
I had thought about doing a light house, as there is one not far from their place, and I do have a great picture of it in a book on Tasmania. Those ideas are really great, and you know Diane its manatory that you have to add a photo to the site once your circular blanket is finished. I will do some Australian animal and fish blocks to put to the quilt, and then see what else I need to add, as its a queen sized quilt, it will take a few blocks to get to the size. My grandson has just turned 16, so dont think he need beach babes for a while??
