Noddy question for you knitters

I impulse bought a small kit for a beaded amulet bag at Riccarton Market last weekend. I foolishly assumed (given the price) that it would have all the instructions needed for the entire project.
However it assumes that I know what a garter stitch is and how to cast off.
I think I once managed to knit a basic square for a charity one time
As I said at the time I did not know how to knit, I am a bit annoyed that the kit assumes I know at least something of knitting

So those knitting experts out there please can you help?

Garter stitch is just plain stitch

To cast off knit 2 stitches and then lift the 1st stitch over the 2nd, continue to the end and pull th ethread thro the past stitch

Hope that makes sense! :D

Have a look here, seems pretty easy to follow instructions, but then I know what they mean! They might seem like total gibberish to you, I know crochet instructions are like that to me! ;)

Never trust a sales person unless you ask very specific questions and establish that they actually know what they're selling!

Go to your library and find a basic knitting book with clear instructions on how to cast on, form stitches and cast off again. I have an old copy of something called Know-How and it has exceptionally clear pen drawings of hands, yarn and needles, from which I retaught myself to knit after only knowing garter stitch as a child.
