This is a book for “Northumbrians“ – a tribe who inhabit the southern side of the Scottish border in the north east of England drained by the river North Tyne and Rede. Anyone who has ever had a connection with the county of Northumberland or whose ancestors came from there will find it of interest.
The content relates the humorous experiences of the authors as two young farm workers (called “Daft Laddies“) in the 1950s when farming was experiencing rapid change from horsepower to tractors.
The book is written using many Northumbrian dialect words in the text with a glossary provided in the back. It describes the seasonal work of a farm at that time, and which is now part of agricultural history.
On an accompanying audio CD, Donald Clegg reads eight excerpts from the book in the Northumbrian dialect of the day.
